The construction of the oldest part of Riga Castle - the Castellum - dates back to the beginning of the 14th century, and its foundations were built on the defensive walls of Riga City in the early 13th century. The story of Latvia's history is thus interwoven in this building over eight centuries. In December 2023, the restoration of the Convent part of the Riga Castle was completed - now 4,500 m2 of the 11,000 m2 the building have been restored. The building will soon house an exhibition of the Latvian National History Museum.
