The second round of the competition for the architectural design of the building facades was won by two architectural firms from Latvia. "MARK Arhitekti" won for three buildings with a total planned construction volume of 33 250 m². These buildings will be constructed at the addresses of the land plots Krišjāņa Barona iela 75, Krišjāņa Barona iela 75A and Tērbatas iela 78B (Zone A). The proposal by PBR" for two buildings, with a total planned construction volume of 21,360 m², to be built on the land plots at Krišjāņa Barona iela 75B and Tērbatas iela 78C (Zone B), was deemed the best.

From August 26 until November 25, 2024, the second round of the International open architecture sketch design competition with invited participants "Tērbatas dārzs" city quarter development is open. After the first competition round, six invited competition participants were announced, however anyone interested is welcome to participate in the second round.

We hereby inform that 26 applications were received in the 1st round of the open design competition "Development of "Tērbatas dārzs" City Block" (hereinafter — the Competition). The selection jury evaluated the submitted applications with the stated aim of inviting a limited number of participants — six participants — to the 2nd round of the Competition (three participants for the construction of A zone of the Competition object and three participants for the construction of B zone of the Competition object) in order to achieve a potentially greater diversity of proposals and to take into account the wishes expressed by the client.
The applications submitted in the 1st round of the Competition were evaluated on a point scale from 1 to 10 based on the following criteria:
1) the interested Competition participant’s portfolio of previous property references, year of design/construction and author(s),
2) letter of motivation and previous experience of the office,
3) the average hourly rate of the office of the interested Competition participant.
As a result of the selection, it was decided to invite to the 2nd round of the Competition:
a. the following architectural offices for the design of the architectural form of the facades of the buildings in Zone A:

2. SIA "ARHIS Arhitekti",
3. SIA "MARK Arhitekti",
b. the following architectural offices for the design the architectural form of the facades of the buildings in Zone B:
1. SIA "PBR",
2. SIA "TECTUM",
3. SIA "OUTOFBOX".
Individual notifications as well as confirmation forms for their consent to participate in the 2nd round of the Competition (for signature by the invited Competition participants) will be sent to all the above-mentioned invited participants by 16 August 2024.
At the same time, other participants (apart from the invited Competition participants mentioned above) can and are invited to participate in the Competition.

By responding to the invitation of "Tērbatas dārzs" Ltd. to apply for participation in the open international architectural design competition DEVELOPMENT OF THE CITY QUARTER "TĒRBATAS DĀRZS" in Riga with invited participants, we would like to inform you that 26 applications have been received. Limited liability company "Tērbatas dārzs" (the "Customer") invites interested persons to apply for participation in an international open architectural design competition DEVELOPMENT OF THE CITY QUARTER "TĒRBATAS DĀRZS" with invited participants in Riga, Latvia.
The aim of the Design Competition is to obtain an architecturally high-quality solution for facades of residential buildings and a mixed-use construction in the city quarter "Tērbatas dārzs", conforming to the principles and traditions of the construction of the Historic Centre of Riga, as well as to select the cooperation partner(s) for the designing of a minimal construction project.
The subject of the competition is the quarter "Tērbatas dārzs" in the Historic Centre of Riga – five new buildings of architecturally high quality that would organically fit into the urban environment and landscape, corresponding to the scale, compositional principles of the surrounding buildings and uniformity of the urban structure of the particular place. The competition is carried out in parallel for two development zones. Zone A consists of three residential buildings with a total estimated above-ground gross floor area of 33,250 m2 (land-plot addresses 75 Krišjāņa Barona Street, 75A Krišjāņa Barona Street and 78B Tērbatas Street). Zone B consists of residential and mixed-use construction with a total estimated above-ground gross floor area of 21,360 m2 (land-plot addresses 75B Krišjāņa Barona Street and 78C Tērbatas Street).
The international open architectural design competition with invited participants is organized in two rounds.
The 1st round of the competition runs from June 10 to June 21, 2024.
The 2nd round of the competition takes place from August 26 to November 25, 2024.
The 1st round of the Competition is freely available to all natural and legal persons. Based on the 1st round results, the Customer will invite three interested parties to the 2nd round of the Competition to design the architectural form of the facades of buildings in Zone A and three interested parties to design the architectural form of facades of buildings in Zone B (the “Invited Participants”). Each Invited Participant will be paid the EUR 12,000 (twelve thousand euros) participation fee for participation in 2nd round of the Competition (excluding VAT). Additionally, other interested participants can take part in the 2nd round of the Competition as non-invited participants. If the Jury selects a non-invited participant as the winner of the 2nd round of the Competition, the Customer will award this participant a monetary prize of EUR 12,000 (twelve thousand euros, excluding VAT).
Interested participants are invited to submit in the 1st round:
• a free-form cover letter on A4 sheets in pdf format for participation in the Design Competition and a short office CV with previous experience;
• the portfolio of the Interested participant on max 5 (five) A3 sheets in pdf or jpg (resolution minimum 300 dpi) format with the references of the previous objects, the year of design/construction, and the author(s);
• the average hourly cost indicator of the office of the interested participant on an A4 sheet in pdf format.
The Interested participants should send the application electronically to the e-mail address [email protected] by June 21, 2024, 5 p.m.
The Customer will send the invitation for the participation in the 2nd round of the Competition to the e-mail address specified in the application of the Design Competition participants by July 12, 2024.
